Spring Teams Formed
Coaches Will Contact Players Week of 2/6
We are pleased to confirm that spring teams have been formed and more than 100 players are participating on Quakes teams in 2017. Thanks to all our players, coaches, and volunteers for your support.
Your player's spring team head coach will contact with you early this week to confirm roster details, practice schedule, and other information. The game schedule, which begins in early March, will be posted by mid-February once that is finalized.
Quakes Fastpitch is the result of an invaluable affiliation of 5 terrific non-profit youth fastpitch softball organizations, and begin our second year of Quakes Fastpitch with great enthusiasm and excitment. Our goals continue to be offering a competitive playing opportunity for 14U, 16U, and 18U players with a wide range of experience from those relatively new to the game to those kids with many years of high caliber play. Quakes offers year-round playing opportunities. For middle school players preparing for high school and travel ball and high school kids looking for a competitive summer and travel team at 14's, 16's and 18's, the Quakes program is your destination for fastpitch softball.
All players participating in spring rec are eligible for summer travel ball team play. This includes high school players who should sign up for rec. Fees paid will be applied towards summer travel ball if you make a high school team.
This season is a great opportunity to develop new individual and team fundamentals, learn new positions and prepare for high school softball.
Stay dry, have fun, and go Quakes!
'17 Spring Season
South Bay Quakes Spring League Begins Play
Quakes Fastpitch develops players at all levels of commitment and experience to be successful with the game. A major part of our player development occurs with our Quakes spring league 2017, focusing on 14U and 16U players in middle school and high school (but not playing on a high school team). Spring Quakes is open to any player and is an extension of the great fastpitch programs in the South Bay area, the epicenter for fastpitch softball in Northern California. Players interested in spring ball should register now.
We expect over 100 players to take advantage of this terrific development and playing opportunity with spring 2017 Quakes. Much like spring training gives professional baseball players the chance to work on new skills, learn a new position all while refining overall performance and play, this spring league assures kids the chance to build their fundamentals and compete against good competition as well.
All players will be contacted during week of February 6th with information about their team for the spring season. Practices will get underway immediately in preparation for league games commencing early March.
All players participating in the spring Quakes season are eligible for Quakes Summer 14U and 16U Travel Teams 2017.
Tryouts for summer 2017 competitive travel balls teams at 14U and 16U will be held on May 1st. Details on time, location, and a link to our travel ball registration online form will be posted on the home page by early April.
Sports Specialization and Intensive Training Risks
Quakes Fastpitch exists to develop fantastic softball players that share a passion for the game. Equally true is our emphasis on life balance with athletics, academics, and family. Our culture not only allows but promotes terrific performance in the classroom and on the field, young adults playing multiple sports and participating in activities beyond the athletic realm. A recent study from the American Academy of Pediatrics further supports our collective philsophy.
The AAP encourages young athletes to play multiple sports and delay specializating in a single sport until late adolescence. The academy advocates banning the practice of ranking athletes nationally and recruting for college before they reach their late high school years.
Data from the study shows that about 70% of kids drop out of organizated sports by age 13. However, the same research confirms that children who play multiple sports, who diversify their play, are more likely to enjoy physical activity and achieve their athletic goals.
Quakes understands the demands placed on high caliber student athletes, and has created a model that aligns the goals of all those involved including the player, parents, coaches, and organization. We champion commitment, achievement and the work ethic required to be one's best. We understand it's crucial that players avoid over use injury and burnout yet maximize their individual and team performance, thriving in all areas of development. Through balance, organizational culture, and diversification, our players are doing great things and thriving.
'16 Fall Wrap Up
Congratulations to all the players that participated with the South Bay Quakes on a fall travel team!
South Bay Quakes formed 8 teams playing either "A" or "Open" levels this fall. Teams competed at 18's, 16's, and 14's, all playing well representing Quakes in more than 30 tournament events in Northern, Central and Southern CA. High caliber play, excellent coaching, and great sportsmanship are all key elements of Quakes culture.
Fall tournament ball is a fantastic opportunity to challenge new levels of competiton, develop new skills and play with new teammates. We were excited to have almost 150 families onboard this fall and welcome new players for spring, summer and fall 2017 play.
Please check with your teams about the college recruiting seminars, our winter strength and agility training program, and our on field clinics for player development. We also encourage families to attend local college clinics to build relationships with those teams, coaches, and institutions.
As the academic year continues and initial grading periods are completed in late December, please note our philosophy continues to emphasize world class academics coupled with exceptional athletic achievement. Work hard in the classoom, training, and on the field and enjoy every moment to be your best!
